To better understand WIY's philosophy, we interviewed shipowner Emmanuel Pertuisot, a yachting enthusiast and founder of the company:
Why did you choose the name “Windward Islands”?
The idea for this name came to me at sea. We were sailing in the Grenadines, which are part of the Windward Islands. The Windward Islands include many islands such as Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, Dominica, and Martinique, which are all little gems for sailing. Thus, the name Windward Islands seemed obvious to me because of my love for these islands but also, the beauty and musicality of the name.
Where are you from ?
Paradoxically, I come from the interior, from where the only world-famous waters are those of a famous beverage. I am originally from Champagne.
There are many similarities between land and sea, sailor and farmer. I have had the opportunity to verify this several times by returning to the region of my childhood.
and by interacting with farmers and winegrowers: going the distance, having a strong mentality, not giving up, keeping your head down and pulling when necessary. Without forgetting teamwork but also solitude and, of course, nature, which gives us so many emotions and whims too! How did you get into the nautical world?
In Champagne, there's no sea, but there are the magnificent lakes of the Forêt d'Orient. As a child, I was enrolled in a sailing club, and these 5000 hectares of water were my favorite playground. From student, I became an instructor, and sailing has never left me since.
How did you come up with the idea of becoming a shipowner?
After falling into the world of sailing at a very young age, I passed my merchant navy certificate. Then, one day, I decided to put my skills as a skipper to good use.

our emotion and surprise when we received the first request from a client from the other side of the world who wanted to book us a boat in the Antilles. It's something you won't forget.
What are your favorite boats, or even your favorite?
My favorite boat? At the top of my list is my next purchase! For the boat enthusiast that I am, the best is yet to come...
