The Maldives, a dream premium destination that promises to awaken your senses and offer an extraordinary escape:
We were able to meet with representatives of Maldives tourism at the show ILTM 2024 in Cannes. This international professional event brings together all stakeholders in the high-end tourism sector to promote tourism and exchanges between destinations, resorts, starred hotels and palaces. Service providers, sellers, and buyers meet there for four days in a friendly and selective setting.
We had the pleasure of interviewing Ibrahim Shiuree, the head of Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation of National Tourism Board who presented to us the assets of the Maldives, with sincerity and authenticity:
A natural oceanic and terrestrial jewel
The Maldives consists of more than 1 coral islands spread across 000 atolls, creating an exceptional marine ecosystem. Lovers of diving and snorkeling will find their Eden with a rich and varied aquatic fauna, flamboyant coral reefs, and unforgettable encounters with manta rays, whale sharks or sea turtles. These calm and warm waters invite exploration, whether you are a beginner or an experienced diver.
Luxury, relaxation, calm and pleasure
Renowned for its high-end resorts, the Maldives embodies the pinnacle of luxury. Imagine yourself in an overwater villa, lulled by the gentle lapping of the waves, with direct access to a private lagoon. The spas offer treatments inspired by local traditions, combining deep relaxation and harmony with nature. Each hotel is an oasis of serenity, offering a personalized and unforgettable experience.
A rich and authentic culture
Beyond its picture-postcard landscapes, the Maldives reveals a fascinating culture, a blend of African, Middle Eastern, and Asian influences. Immerse yourself in Maldivian history by visiting iconic architectural monuments:
- Hukuru Miskiy (Friday Mosque) Built in the 17th century, this historic mosque is crafted from intricately carved coral blocks. Its ornate details and Islamic calligraphy make it a cultural treasure not to be missed.
- The Mulee Aage Palace Located in Male, this early 20th-century palace is a fascinating example of colonial architecture influenced by local traditions. Today, it serves as the presidential office.
- The Clock Tower : A symbol of Maldivian history, this structure sits in the heart of Male and evokes a time when the city served as a cultural and political crossroads.
- The royal tombs : Scattered across several islands, these carved coral tombs bear witness to the spiritual and historical importance of Maldivian royalty.
Also explore Male's bustling markets, where stalls are overflowing with tropical fruits, spices, and unique handicrafts. Spices play a vital role in Maldivian cuisine, bringing rich and varied flavors. Some of the most commonly used spices include turmeric, cumin, cardamom, and chili peppers, which add character to local dishes.
The " Mas huni", for example, is a tasty blend of thinly sliced tuna, fresh coconut, onion and chili, often served with " roshi", a traditional flatbread. The " Fihunu But » is another signature dish, consisting of grilled whole fish marinated in a paste of fragrant spices. Desserts, such as "Bondibaiy," a sweet pudding made with rice and coconut milk, are also enhanced with delicate spices like cinnamon.
Let yourself be carried away by the captivating rhythm of the “ Bodu Ber", a traditional dance accompanied by drums, which often brings communities together during ceremonies or festivities.
Finally, the warm and welcoming people of the Maldives are proud to share their heritage and traditions with visitors.
