Luxury travel is no longer limited to suites with a view or business class tickets. What matters now is the overall experience. Traveling without wasting time, being met upon arrival, accessing services designed to simplify every step… these are just some of the touches that transform a simple trip into a truly memorable experience. To mark the 30th anniversary of its Platinum Card in France, American Express This study paints a portrait of this new generation of premium travelers. More than just an anniversary, it tells the story of the evolution of a certain idea of travel, where true luxury now consists of saving time, traveling with peace of mind, and having meaningful experiences.
Today's luxury is called time.
Le travel It is no longer simply a break in a busy schedule. It becomes a moment that we choose to live fully. The results of the study OpinionWay made for American Express are revealing: 91% of premium travellers plan to leave by the end of the year and, for the majority of them, the priority is no longer to go further and further, but to make the most of the time spent there.
This evolution reflects a trend that is now evident in the world of luxury. Time has become the most precious resource. Being able to slow down, stroll, and alternate between cultural discoveries, gastronomy, wellness, and moments of relaxation now seems more important than rushing from one sightseeing trip to the next.
In Europe, the most popular destinations illustrate this search for balance.Spainthe south of the France, the Britain or againItalie are among the top choices of premium travelers, proving that proximity is no longer incompatible with excellence when the experience is there.
The end of complicated journeys
What tires a traveler the most is not necessarily jet lag. It's the little annoyances that accumulate: queues, formalities, complex bookings, unexpected events, or the feeling of having to manage everything oneself.
The study shows that 95% of premium travelers believe that good organization allows them to travel more serenely, while 89% consider it essential to travel without having to deal with unforeseen events.
This quest for seamless travel explains the growing success of support services. Airport lounge access, 24/7 assistance, comprehensive insurance, concierge services, easy booking changes, and personalized support are becoming almost as important as the destination itself.
Since its launch in France in 1996, the American Express Platinum Card has been built precisely around this philosophy: simplifying each step of the journey to allow the traveler to fully enjoy their stay.
Traveling while being expected
The true privilege is no longer just having access to exceptional places. It lies in the feeling of being recognized.
The partner hotels of the Fine Hotels + Resorts® program perfectly illustrate this evolution. Early check-in when possible, guaranteed check-out until 16 p.m., complimentary breakfast, upgrades subject to availability, or hotel credits enhance the experience without ever making it ostentatious.
This personalization is also extended through privileged status with major international hotel chains, but also through a network of more than 3,000 partner establishments spread across the world.
This approach perfectly matches the new expectations revealed by the survey: nearly seven out of ten premium travelers now favour services that can tangibly improve their experience rather than visible displays of luxury.

Emotion before prestige
Premium travel is no longer just associated with five-star hotels or gourmet restaurants. It is built around emotions.
Discovering an exceptional landscape, attending a concert in privileged conditions, experiencing Wimbledon from a private suite or gaining access to the backstage of a major sporting event creates memories that are far more lasting than the simple accumulation of prestigious addresses.
American Express has been developing this experiential dimension for several years through its partnerships with Formula 1, Wimbledon, the US Open, Paris Saint-Germain, and major international festivals such as BST Hyde Park and Coachella.
The goal is no longer simply to attend an event, but to access it differently.
A new definition of premium travel
In thirty years, the American Express Platinum Card has become much more than a means of payment. It accompanies a profound transformation of high-end travel.
Its access to more than 1,550 airport lounges worldwide, including Centurion Lounges, its hotel programs, its international insurance, its 24-hour services, its dining benefits and its exclusive experiences all follow the same logic: to remove constraints to leave room for the pleasure of travel.
This evolution ultimately reflects that of contemporary luxury. Owning more is no longer an end in itself. What matters now is the quality of the experience, the freedom of movement, and that rare feeling that everything seems to naturally organize itself around you.
Thirty years after its launch in France, the American Express Platinum Card accompanies a generation of travelers who no longer simply seek to discover the world. Above all, they want to experience it fully, without wasting time, with elegance and serenity.
