Le Véritable Cherbourg, which is now part of the closed circle of Living Heritage Companies recognized for the excellence of their exceptional French know-how, has created two modelshexclusives for the Cadre Noir boutique. Two umbrellas whose raised, tone-on-tone embroidery highlights the power and beauty of the muscles of the horses of the highest French riding school.   


The real Cherbourg

Cherbourg, a rainy city. So what? While it often experiences rainfall rates higher than the national average, the Yvon family decides to "take advantage" of these bad weather conditions. Pierre-Yves therefore has the idea of ​​not going against this idea but of turning it into an asset. Drizzle, drizzle, rain, showers, gusts of wind... Nothing like protecting yourself from them under a Véritable Cherbourg, the name given to one of the most high-end umbrellas on the market, capable of withstanding the strongest winds while allowing its owners to keep smiling while enjoying the plop plop of the rain while waiting for the first clearings. The success of Jacques Demy's 1963 film, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, had saddened the inhabitants of Cherbourg, disappointed to see their city as a place where bad weather was omnipresent. The idea of ​​the Véritable Cherbourg had just found its source. Photographer in Paris, Pierre-Yves Yvon returns to his homeland and, thanks to his family's expertise, a leather manufacturer since 1800 and supplier to the biggest luxury brands, sets up the Cherbourg Umbrella Factory and names its products Le Véritable Cherbourg. From the outset, the specifications are strict and commit the company to providing a zero-defect, zero-fault umbrella. Each Véritable Cherbourg is made on site by a team of around ten versatile and highly qualified craftsmen. Five years of qualification are required to master the hundreds of steps that lead to the manufacture of a Véritable Cherbourg. The fabric of the Véritable Cherbourg (1 meter to 1,50 meters of fabric) undergoes a waterproof, water-repellent, anti-UV treatment. As for the finished product, it is recognizable by its handles made of precious wood or leather, turned or curved, its pronounced curve, the regular arching of its ribs and its Le Véritable Cherbourg coat of arms, embroidered directly on the fabric.

The Cherbourg Umbrella Factory recognized as a Living Heritage Company

Le Véritable Cherbourg is already recognized by the Origine France label, which guarantees that the product was indeed made in France, a certification of the Pro France association created in 2010 at the initiative of Yves Jégo, former MP for Seine et Marne and parliamentarian very active in the defense of French companies. The house also just received in November 2018 the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (EPV) label issued by the French State, a mark of recognition that distinguishes French companies with excellent artisanal and industrial know-how. Charles Yvon, Pierre-Yves's son now at the helm of Le Véritable Cherbourg, is particularly proud to achieve this distinction, which honors fewer than 2 companies in France.

Two exclusive models of Le Véritable Cherbourg for Le Cadre Noir

The Cadre Noir de Saumur had already recognized this approach to excellence and performance and had invited Charles Yvon to join the partner companies of the best French riding school. For a little over a year, Charles Yvon has designed two Le Véritable Cherbourg models for the Cadre Noir. The classic anti-gust, which can withstand headwinds of 156 km/h, displays two large raised embroideries that highlight the horse's curves in tone on tone, black on black. And a second ultra-luxurious model where this time, the canvas of the Véritable Cherbourg is in moiré, the gilding of the logo in 24 carats and the embroidery in gold. The height of luxury at 650 euros each!
