After three long years of absence, the meeting place for elegance automobile and lifestyle French style is taking up residence in Chantilly castle September 24 and 25, 2022
Along with the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in California, the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance in Florida, and the Villa d'Este Concours d'Elegance in Italy, Chantilly Arts & Elegance Richard Mille has established itself as a must-see in France. By creating the event in 2014, Peter Auto set out to revive the Concours d'Elegance, which was born in France in the 1920s, and to celebrate thelifestyle French style. A successful bet! It was rewarded from the start, in 2014 and 2015, with the prize for the most beautiful historic car event of the year at the International Historic Motoring Awards and by growing attendance, reaching 2019 visitors in 19.
The recipe is simple but ambitious: a prestigious site, beautiful cars, elegant outfits, gourmet meals, personalities and fun and family entertainment. Enough to seduce collectors, fans of beautiful cars and lovers of “lunch on the grass”. A weekend dedicated to beauty and elegance… with the festivities starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, each moment punctuated by an event. Between the parades of the “Most Beautiful Cars in the World”, the Bonhams classic car auction, the Garden Party, the competitions, the classic car rally and family entertainment, the public can only be transported!
For its sixth edition, Chantilly Arts & Elégance Richard Mille will indeed offer its usual competitions, the Concours d'État (for classic car collectors), the Concours d'Élégance (for manufacturers and their concept cars), the Grand Prix des Clubs (for witnesses of automotive history). In addition, there are many activities: the public will be able to enjoy a visit to the Condé & Équestre museum, horse-drawn carriage rides, a giant table football, a floral workshop, a costume photo booth... and to perfect their elegant style, a barber's workshop, a shoe shine workshop or even a hat workshop, with a prize awarded for the most beautiful. The little ones will not be left out with all kinds of activities: small sulkies, pedal cars, makeup workshops, pony rides, carousel... They will also meet magicians or admire the puppets of the Guignols theater.
Seventeen classes
To celebrate the return of this event, organizer Peter Auto is offering a beautiful edition with 17 classes. The State Competition will award two Best of Shows, one for
pre-war cars and the other for post-war cars. Three classes will pay tribute to Roland D'Ieteren, who died of Covid: pre-war coachbuilt cars, post-war cars, and those with Touring coachbuilt cars since the 6s. The “Tribute to Betty” open American sports car category will be dedicated to Betty Kadoorie, who has also passed away. Prestigious brands will be honored with a Bugatti “Revival” class, or another for the Italian manufacturer De Tomaso, with its sports and competition cars from yesterday and today. Yet another will present racing cars from 2000 to 1905. Finally, to kick off the centenary celebrations of the 1925 Hours of Le Mans, in early 24, two classes will highlight speed and aerodynamics on the Mulsanne Straight and the race for the index of performance. Candidates for the Concours d'Etat who own vintage cars can also participate in the "Chantilly Arts & Elégance Tour," a 2023-kilometer route through the natural park and surrounding forest. A true automobile museum with no fewer than 150 cars from different worlds and eras gathered together!
Bebel's class
To pay tribute to the exceptional actor Jean-Paul Belmondo, a special class will be dedicated to the cars used in his films, such as the Matra MS630 in Ho!, the Lorraine-Dietrich in Borsalino, where we find the criminal duo Belmondo/Delon, the Mercury Marquis Convertible in “A Man Who Pleases Me” alongside Annie Girardot. Other cars, personal this time, will be presented because in life, as on screen, Belmondo had a real passion for the beautiful cars he collected. More particularly for Italian cars: with the 250 TdF Ferrari, the 250 California or the 308 GTS and the 246GT Dino. He also had a crush on the Aston Martin DB5, of which he had two models: a gray one and a burgundy one.
