Insta360 GO 3S, mini camera, maxi ambitions

La Insta360 GO 3S is an action camera like no other. Ultra-compact, light as a feather, and designed to be forgotten, it condenses all of Insta360's expertise into a miniature format.

Sold in particular on specialized sites such as The On-Board Camera (in the “Standard Edition 128 GB” version), it positions itself as an excellent compromise between performance, creativity and portability.

With 25,6 × 54,4 × 24,8 mm for only 39 grams, the GO 3S literally fits in the palm of your hand. This small size allows it to be attached almost anywhere: on a helmet, a necklace or even magnetized to a metal surface. Despite its size, it films in 4K at 30 frames per second, with an alternative in 2,7K up to 50 fps for those who want more fluidity in their videos.

In terms of autonomy, we have approximately 38 minutes capture with the camera alone, but up to 140 minutes when it is connected to its Action Pods, a smart case that serves as a screen, remote control, and charging station. The whole thing remains compact and practical, even outdoors. In terms of robustness, the camera alone is waterproof up to 10 meters (IPX8), while the Action Pod is splash resistant (IPX4), which is enough to face rain or water splashes.

Le integrated storage is offered in 64 or 128 GB, without a microSD port. Insta360 has clearly chosen compactness at the expense of expandability, but the brand compensates with a FlowState stabilization extremely effective and a automatic horizon leveling which keeps the image straight, even in the most sudden movements.

On the creative side, the GO 3S is not lacking in imagination. We find video game modes such as Megaview (low distortion wide angle), the voice and gesture control, time-lapse, interval mode or againsmart self-assemblyThe icing on the cake: the camera automatically adjusts the video format (9:16 or 16:9) according to its orientation, and integrates the location via Apple Find My, very useful in case you forget something on a filming spot.

Product Highlights

The first advantage of the GO 3S is its tiny sizeIt opens the way to original and immersive shots: it can be clipped, glued, or hung almost anywhere. This editing freedom inspires creators, particularly for POV videos or discreet action shots.

La FlowState stabilization is a real success: even when running, cycling or in the mountains, the images remain fluid and balanced. The automatic leveling adds a welcome professional touch. The creative modes like Megaview or time-lapse are well thought out, while theAI self-assembly makes it easy to create dynamic clips without spending hours in post-production.

On the endurance side, the duo camera + Action Pod offers excellent compromise : 38 minutes solo, 140 minutes with the pod connected. Finally, its waterproof up to 10 meters making it perfect for swimming or snorkeling, without going as far as deep diving, of course.

Limits

Inevitably, this miniature format imposes some concessions. 4K limit at 30 fps is felt: the fluidity is not at the level of GoPro or DJI Osmo capable of shooting in 4K60. For very dynamic scenes, this can be a hindrance.

Le non-expandable storage is another constraint: the 64 or 128 GB fill up quickly, especially in 4K. The autonomy in solo use, while decent on paper, quickly disappears with Wi-Fi and stabilization activated. Some users on Reddit mention a acceptable compromise, but this remains a limit to be aware of.

THEAction Pods, however practical it may be, adds a little weight and fragility to the whole, with simple splash resistance. Finally, the price places the GO 3S against better technically equipped competitors, such as the GoPro Hero ou DJI Action, or even the recent one Insta360 GO Ultra which pushes 4K up to 60 fps and adds a microSD slot.

For whom, for what?

La GO 3S is not a camera for professional capture, but for mobile creators vloggers urban adventurers or simply those who want to film without lugging around bulky equipment. It is perfect for spontaneous shots original angles and everyday moments that you want to immortalize effortlessly. On the other hand, those who shoot in 4K60, who often film at night or who record for hours will be better off looking at a more robust model.

La Insta360 GO 3S current is a little technological gem. It proves that you can do great things with a thumb-sized camera. Its limitations—storage, battery life, and 30 fps—are real, but its ingenuity and versatility more than compensate. For creators who want to capture the moment without getting bogged down, it's a ideal pocket companionA fun, smart, and terribly endearing mini-camera that does exactly what it promises, and does it well.
