UGREENThe brand is best known for its chargers, USB hubs, docking stations, and well-made accessories. Its arrival in the NAS market, a territory historically dominated by Synology and QNAP, was therefore somewhat intriguing.
On paper, the product already boasts some impressive features: four SATA bays, an Intel Core i3 processor, 8 GB of expandable DDR5 memory, dual NVMe slots, a 10 GbE network port, a 2,5 GbE port, HDMI, USB, an SD card reader, and the UGOS Pro operating system. In short, UGREEN hasn't just cobbled together a small home server for beginners, but rather offered a serious machine capable of appealing to demanding individuals, content creators, small businesses, and data enthusiasts.
This storage server (Network Aattached Storage) connected to your home or business network is used to centralize, secure and share your files from multiple devices: Mac, PC, smartphones, tablets, cameras or even connected TVs.
For our product test, the NAS was installed with four 2TB Western Digital Red Pro hard drivesThese drives are designed for NAS environments, continuous operation, with a rotational speed of 7200 RPM and CMR technology. Western Digital positions this range for RAID systems and intensive workloads.
An almost premium presentation
And from the moment you unpack it, one thing is immediately apparent: UGREEN has made a great first impression.
The first impression of the NAS is surprisingly positive. The packaging is clean, well-organized, almost reminiscent of Apple's approach to product presentation. It's clear the brand didn't simply want to sell a disc storage device, but rather offer a genuine experience.
It's a small detail, admittedly, but in high tech, details matter. Especially when we're talking about a device that will remain in an office, a technical room, or a workspace for several years.
The chassis also makes a great impression. In the same price range, many competing NAS devices still rely heavily on plastic. Here, UGREEN offers a more robust build, with a real sense of sturdiness. Several specialist reviews highlight the build quality of the DXP4800 Pro, particularly its aluminum alloy chassis, tool-less drive bays, and generous connectivity.
The hard drive bays are simple yet well-designed. HDDs can be installed quickly, without feeling like you're handling something fragile. The system is clever and user-friendly, which is exactly what you'd expect from a product that appeals to both technicians and advanced users.
A welcome connectivity option
Where the DXP4800 Pro really shines is in its connectivity. The port 10GbE is included as standard, along with a port 2,5GbEThis is an important choice, because with some competitors, this type of connectivity is sometimes absent, optional, or reserved for more expensive ranges.
UGREEN also adds an HDMI output, fast USB ports, and an SD card reader. For a photographer, videographer, content creator, or simply someone who centralizes a lot of files, these are features that can really make a difference in everyday use.
In my case, I deliberately tested this NAS in a realistic home environment: a Orange Livebox at 1 Gb/sA Windows PC connected via Ethernet, and the NAS connected to the same network. Some will say this limits the product, and they're true. But it's also what makes the test interesting. Few users today have a full 10 Gigabit network at home.
The idea was therefore simple: to see how this NAS behaves in a classic installation, the kind that many individuals or small structures can actually have.
Excellent performance on a home network
The results are very good, and above all, very consistent.
The test iPerf reaches 950 Mb/sThis shows that the Gigabit network is being used almost to its full potential. CrystalDiskMark confirms this impression with 114,38 MB/s sequential read et 110,72 MB/s sequential write speedIn real-world transfer, with the copying of a Windows ISO file via TeraCopy, the throughput stabilizes around 103 to 107 MB/s.
In other words, the NAS is doing exactly what it's supposed to: it's saturating the 1 Gb/s connection. In this configuration, it's not the DXP4800 Pro that's limiting performance, but rather the home network.
It's actually quite reassuring. This means that for everyday use—PC backups, storing photos, videos, large documents, work projects, or multimedia libraries—the NAS handles it perfectly well. It never feels strained.
The 10GbE port, therefore, remains, in this test, a reserve of power for the future. But that's precisely what makes this product interesting: it already works very well in a home equipped with Gigabit Ethernet, while being ready for an upgrade to a faster network.
UGOS Pro, a reassuring interface
The real risk for a new player in the NAS market is not just the hardware. It's the software.
A NAS can have the best processor, the best connectivity, and a beautiful chassis, but if it's a pain to configure, it quickly becomes a frustrating product. On this point, UGREEN does very well.
Interface UGOS Pro It's clear, modern, and quite intuitive. It shares a similar philosophy to Synology's user experience: legible icons, logical menus, and a fairly quick learning curve. And frankly, that's a good idea. When a new player enters a market already dominated by established players, drawing inspiration from what works isn't a bad thing.
The setup is stress-free. You create the storage, configure the shares, access the essential settings, and everything remains easy to understand. For a user new to the world of NAS, this is a real advantage. For a more experienced user, it also saves unnecessary time.
The application center is already quite impressive for such a young product. To be honest, it doesn't yet have the depth of a Synology DSM or a QNAP QTS, but the foundation is there. Specialized reviews also highlight this point: the hardware is very robust, while the software ecosystem still needs to mature.
But what's already available makes you want to follow the platform's evolution. You get the feeling the product isn't static.
A serious machine, not just a connected gadget
What I liked most about this NAS is its overall balance. UGREEN doesn't give the impression of having simply assembled an aggressive spec sheet to attract attention. The product is coherent.
The packaging is well-designed. The chassis inspires confidence. The racks are practical. The connectivity is generous. The interface is accessible. The performance is solid. And above all, the price point remains competitive compared to established brands.
The DXP4800 Pro has something quite rare for such a young product: it gives the impression of already being credible.
Of course, it's not perfect. The application ecosystem still needs to expand. Some very advanced users will likely find Synology or QNAP more comprehensive for certain professional uses. But for a demanding individual, a tech enthusiast, a content creator, or a small business that wants to centralize its data properly, UGREEN offers a very serious alternative.
Le UGREEN NASync DXP4800 Pro: the verdict
I was expecting to discover a promising NAS. Instead, I got my hands on a much more mature product than anticipated. It has all the hallmarks of a great device: a beautiful finish, modern connectivity, good performance, a user-friendly interface, and real potential for future expansion.
On my Livebox 1 Gb/s setup, it's already reaching the practical limit of the network, with more than 110 MB/s read and write speeds in CrystalDiskMark, and around 105 MB / s in real-time transfer via TeraCopy. The 10GbE port hasn't yet been tested, but its standard inclusion makes the NAS much more future-proof.
UGREEN is entering a tough market, facing long-established brands. But with the DXP4800 Pro, the brand shows that it understands what users expect: a powerful, well-built, easy-to-use, scalable NAS offered at a reasonable price.
It may not yet be the king of software compared to historical benchmarks, but in terms of hardware and user experience, it really has nothing to be ashamed of.
For a first high-tech test, it's a pleasant surprise. And for UGREEN, it's above all a message sent to the market: they are now a force to be reckoned with.
