Christie's is holding the auction entitled " Design » on May 26, 2023, which will offer approximately 200 lots from various private collections with a combined estimate of €5 million to €7 million.
Featuring Charlotte Perriand et Jean Prouvé, the sale will celebrate the richness and diversity of French designers before the New York Design design sale on June 3 where Jean Royère will be in the spotlight. Originality of the Parisian auction… some thirty lots from Charlotte Perriand's Arches for various locations in the Savoyard mountain resort. By taking into account this key moment in the designer's work, the sale is in keeping with the spirit of the major retrospective dedicated to her by the Fondation Louis Vuitton, which fully showcased her design, which is so central to the history of the discipline. In this spirit, this auction, mainly for female designers, brings together lots of Janette Laverrière, Line Vautrin, Denyse Gatard et Claude Lalanne.

Offering both a Free-form desk de Charlotte Perriand (Estimate 200-000 euros) and the rare Presidential Office de Jean Prouvé (Estimate €250-000), the sale also pays tribute to the complicity of influence, inspiration and admiration between the two iconic creators whose work is closely linked. In addition to around twenty lots of Jean Prouvé, Paul Dupré-Lafon in 1947 created a very beautiful costume for one of his clients, a selection of ceramics from Georges Jouve and several works by Diego Giacometti, with estimates ranging from 200 to 000 euros.
Charlotte Perriand – Les Arcs
Les Arcs is the great adventure of the architect designer Charlotte PerriandOriginally from Savoy, she devoted herself to mountain life from the 1930s and made a major contribution to popularizing winter sports. On May 26, Christie's will offer several works from Les Arcs, at the heart of the sale. Design, selected by several collectors. The achievements of Charlotte Perriand for Les Arcs, classified by the Ministry of Culture as Remarkable contemporary architecture, synthesize the human and environmental values that underpin much of her heritage and current life. On May 26, they will therefore have their place alongside the designer's signature pieces, the Mexico Library (est. 100.000-200.000 euros), the Free Form Coffee Table (est. 70.000-90.000 euros) or the day bed of the House of Brazil (15-000 euros).

Women Designers
Besides the iconic Charlotte Perriand, other female figures of modernity are also on the sale program Design. This is particularly the case of Janette Laverrière, Franco-Swiss designer whose work at the crossroads of movement Modern and movement Art Deco, is best known for a set Buffet (est. 8.000-12.000 euros), Humanist (est. 7.000-9.000 euros) from a special order unique on the market. Jean Prouvé
From an important private collection, a remarkable Office of the President (est. 250-000 euros) and a Executive chair (est. 70-000 euros) are among the most emblematic works of Jean Prouvé, offered for sale. A global icon of the discipline, Jean Prouvé was recently given a huge retrospective at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo. Office of the President occupied a prominent place there. It is also the flagship lot among around fifteen works by Jean Prouvé. Among the most important lots in this selection, we also find several iconic pieces by the designer from the house of Jean Prouvé's daughter, Françoise Gauthier, in Saint-Dié-Vosges, including the two Metropole Visitor armchairs N.350 (Est 150.000-200.000 euros each) and a Sideboard furniture with two sliding doors (est. 80-000 euros).
Paul Dupré-Lafon
For its impeccable elegance and its love of natural materials like leather, Paul Dupré-Lafon is known for his collaborations with the Hermès HouseHe is a highly regarded interior designer among the stars and the author of numerous prestigious projects for private mansions and residences. Created around 1947, the eight lots offered for auction have never left the site where they were designed. The set includes a Bar (est. 5-000 euros), a Set of Chairs (est. 20-000 euros) or even Wall lamps (est. 15-000 euros).
Georges Jouve
A collection of figurative works by Georges Jouve, from a private collection in Marseille, illustrates his creative diversity and aesthetic research from the mid-1940s to the 1950s. Georges Jouve's vases, which combine decorative and sculptural approaches, are particularly appreciated by collectors, such as this pitcher The big woman with breasts (est. 20-000 euros). pairs of deer candelabra and Team Mermaid wall lights (estimated at 10-000 euros each) also illustrate the spirit of Georges Jouve's work.
Les Lalanne
With undeniable success, the Lalanne are today among the most sought-after designers by collectors worldwide. Following the resounding success of the sale Sculpting Paradise from the Collection of Madame Marie Lalanne in New York last December, the sale of 15 lots will shed new light on this unique allegory of this illustrious creative couple. Among them, The Perched Owl (est. 200-000 euros) or The Three Geese of Sarlat (est. 300-000 euros) by François-Xavier Lalanne or the Lotus and Monkey Table by Claude Lalanne (est. 300-000 euros).
