A collection of watches with four right angles, this is the fruit of the creativity of Nicolas MertenatAfter 20 years of collaborations as a designer with major Parisian and Swiss watch brands, this art enthusiast took the plunge with his family. Indeed, with his brother Claude, he created the label Blancarré to, as he so aptly puts it: "make watches my way but differently." Born in the Swiss Jura, it was in his hometown that the designer decided to establish the house Blancarré.
Square or nothing
For Nicolas Mertenat, choosing the square as the basic shape of his creations was simply a "no-brainer". His pronounced taste for architecture and cubic structures is no stranger to this choice. Moreover, the designer does not hide the influence of minimal art in his creations. The watches Blancarré are therefore the product of the fusion of two passions, art and watchmaking. Reconciling the two was no easy feat for the designer, however it contributed to highlighting his experience and his personal conception of THE watch.
Character watches
By lending its form to the creations of Nicolas Mertenat, the square draws us into a simple and refined watchmaking universe, enhanced by balanced lines. The designer combines this geometric shape with this neutral space that is regularly made available to artists for the exhibition of their works in salons or art galleries. It is therefore inside this square and all around it that the designer expresses his own art and know-how.
For Nicolas Mertenat, the dial of his watches serves as an open and independent space where he can give free rein to his creativity. Thus, the watches Blancarré are part of these Cartesian works of art. Sharp angles, a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment, a back with a sapphire crystal, rather raw colors (black, white or gray) with matte or glossy finishes, so many criteria that make these watches, extraordinary creations. Disconcerting by their simplicity at first glance, these creations ultimately draw all their originality from the unique and high-quality materials that compose them.
A contemporary line
For a modern collection, Nicolas Mertenat has deliberately chosen to use materials such as titanium, ceramic and rubber. These materials perfectly highlight the clean yet contemporary line imagined by the designer. Available in 6 models, these watches are contemporary thanks to the interlocking of the squares. The hands and hour markers covered with photoluminescent pigments allow visibility in all circumstances. The pin buckle adds elegance to the rubber strap. In terms of functionality, these watches allow for a fairly comfortable reading of the hours, minutes, seconds, the large date and 2 time zones. With its automatic mechanical system and its water resistance of up to 50 m, we find the reliability of artisanal watchmaking.
