The legendary Tag Heuer Autavia is reborn

Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, the "Autavia" collection watch is being revived by Tag Heuer for its 55th anniversary. This anniversary is marked by the preview release of its latest model at the "Baselworld 2017" international watch and jewelry trade fair, currently taking place in the city of Basel, Switzerland.

Autavia: the neo-retro timepiece

Created in 1962 by Jack Heuer, this legendary collection was born from the fusion of the automotive world with that of aviation, which fascinated its designer. It should also be noted that this watch takes its name from the contraction of the first letters designating these two worlds respectively (TUEmobile – AVIAtion). When it was first released in the 60s, this first chronograph was worn by the greatest racing drivers of the time, such as Mario Andretti and Jo Biffert. The version currently being presented at Baselworld draws its design from the Autavia "Rindt" model created in 1966 and worn by Jochen Rindt, one of the greatest Formula 1 champions. It was the lucky winner among the 16 models competing. It was thanks to the "Autavia Cup" via a digital vote carried out in spring 2016 that admirers of this collection were able to decide on the model they would like to wear on their wrist.

With its mushroom pushers, fluted crown, and aged calfskin strap, the Tag Heuer Autavia tells its story and anchors its roots in its origins. However, this watch has opened up to the contemporary world with, among other things, a 3mm larger diameter (compared to the "Rindt") and a sapphire blue caseback.

Aesthetic, technical and commercial modernity

Under its 3 large, airy counters, its refined rotating black bezel and its robust lines, the new Tag Heuer Autavia model offers modern functions such as the date window display and water resistance up to 100m. On the mechanical side, this new Autavia is equipped with the automatic chronograph movement from the Heuer 02 manufacture. The contemporary dimension is also present through the luminescent inserts whose beige shade matches the stitching on the strap.

Tag Heuer was the first to implement the concept of "Fast Fashion." Thanks to this system, a customer interested in a model they saw could immediately purchase it. No more endless waiting times between ordering, manufacturing, and shipping the product. This ease of acquisition is obviously applicable to the Tag Heuer Autavia, delighting enthusiasts eager to wear it.

A magical short film

For its release, the Tag Heuer Autavia was the subject of a short film directed by Patrick Dempsey, one of the many stars who has already succumbed to the charm of this legendary watch. Entitled "Letter to Jack," this film is a tribute to Jack Heuer, the designer of this timepiece. It features Patrick Dempsey, ambassador of this timepiece, driving a red MGA, the same car Jack Heuer received from his father. The magic works and immerses viewers in this contemplative atmosphere of time offered by the Tag Heuer Autavia.
