Louis Vuitton Escale au Pont Neuf, a watchmaking ode to Paris

After a dreamlike immersion in the heart of the Amazon rainforest, Louis Vuitton returns to its origins to unveil the second chapter of its collection Stopovers Around the World. With the pocket watch Stopover at Pont Neuf, the House pays a masterful tribute to Paris, city of its roots and setting of its history.

This new creation, as technical as it is artistic, perfectly embodies the meeting between trunk-making heritage, watchmaking excellence and artistic crafts.

Back to basics: Paris, the beating heart of Louis Vuitton

The historic cradle of the Maison, Paris is more than just a setting: it is the main character. On the dial of theStopover at Pont Neuf, an autumnal scene unfolds, rich in symbolic details. The Louis Vuitton headquarters stands proudly on the right bank of the Pont Neuf, in front of the Samaritan, an emblem of Parisian luxury since 1870. In the foreground, a barge loaded with trunks glides along the Seine, recalling how, in the past, the river was used to transport the materials needed to make the House's famous travel trunks.

This miniature painting, of astonishing realism, is brought to life by seven automatons et thirteen moving elements, activated by a sliding piece at six o'clock. Sparrows, Louis Vuitton banner, compass, dancing foliage: everything comes to life, in a meticulous and poetic staging.

A mechanism as rare as it is refined

Behind this spectacle hides an exceptional engine: the caliber LFT AU14.03, hand-wound movement incorporating tourbillon, minute repeater and automaton module. Composed of 561 elements, it is entirely assembled by a single master watchmaker. This movement, the most complex ever developed by La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton, is decorated with 630 chamfered angles, hand-engraved engravings and components in solid gold, including the tourbillon wheels.

The needles, however, were moved to case back so as not to interrupt the animated spectacle of the dial. Result: a double perspective where the art visible on the front and the watchmaking precision revealed on the back contrast and complement each other.

The genius of the Crafts

The magic of the Escale au Pont Neuf also lies in the work ofgoldsmith des Métiers d'Art. Each element is sculpted in gold using the technique of bas-relief, giving the whole an extreme lightness and precision. The sparrows are engraved with striking finesse, the leaves are covered with veins invisible to the naked eye, and even the barge is decorated with tiny portholes and skylights.

As to Pont Neuf himself, he was sculpted in gold then hand-enameled to reveal its famous masks, sculpted faces that have adorned the work since the 17th century. The glass facade of the Samaritaine has been miniaturized with absolute attention to detail: every window, every tree has been faithfully reproduced.

Exceptional mastery of enameling

Two ancestral enameling techniques were used: champlevé enamel et miniature enamel. In total, the 30 available shades: have been selected, applied in 10 to 15 layers successive, then cooked until 30 times to achieve the desired light and depth effects.

Le blue sky, which gently fades into a milky white, offers a sublime contrast with the effervescence of the Parisian decor. Each animation, from the waving flag to the advancing barge, also required its own enameling work, reinforcing the vitality of the scene. In total, this work required 300 hours of worki.e two months of intensive craft work.

Exceptional cases for unique pieces

This exceptional timepiece is complemented by two leather goods cases: a custom-made trunk crafted in the Asnières workshops, and a revisited Motor's Bag, inspired by a 1906 model designed at the time for automobile travel. Both are dressed in exclusive saffron leather, a nod to Louis Vuitton's historic colors. A handcrafted white gold chain accompanies this pocket watch, which is as much a jewel as it is a story.

The Pont Neuf, a bridge between art and eternity, has fascinated writers, painters, and passers-by over the centuries. A symbol of sustainability, Parisian romanticism, and architectural renewal, it is also a founding anchor for Louis Vuitton. It is here, just a stone's throw from the Seine, that the Maison's history is still being written today, blending tradition and innovation.

With Stopover at Pont Neuf, Louis Vuitton gives the oldest bridge in Paris a new face: that of a living dial, vibrant with emotion, history, and poetry. Like a passage between eras, this pocket watch combines the memory of the city with watchmaking precision, in a dazzling tribute to the timeless beauty of the French capital.

The adventure continues….
