Jaeger-LeCoultre and the Reverso at the Cannes Film Festival

There are brands that span the decades with unalterable elegance. Jaeger-LeCoultre is one of them. An iconic manufacturer in the Vallée de Joux, the Swiss watch brand has been cultivating a bold watchmaking vision for over 190 years, driven by innovation, refinement, and an unparalleled love of detail.

And it is in the prestigious setting of the Cannes film festival that Jaeger-LeCoultre recently reaffirmed its iconic status, by appearing on the wrist of the charismatic master of ceremonies Laurent Lafitte.

The Cannes Film Festival, a showcase of light for a watchmaking legend

On the red carpet of the opening ceremony, actor Laurent Lafitte magnificently embodied French elegance by sporting the Reverso Tribute Small Seconds in pink gold (750/1000). A watch that is both understated and striking, its iconic Art Deco design perfectly resonates with the glamorous atmosphere of the Croisette. This appearance is not insignificant: it underlines the unique relationship that Jaeger-LeCoultre maintains with the world of cinema, where precision, emotion, and creativity converge.

The Reverso, more than 90 years of avant-garde

A symbol of this passion for innovation and aesthetics, the Reverso continues to reinvent itself without ever betraying its essence. This is evidenced by the new Reverso Tribute Monoface Small Seconds, unveiled in a version that is both resolutely contemporary and assuredly vintage. Its Milanese mesh bracelet fits perfectly on the wrist, while the ultra-thin 18-carat (750/1000) rose gold case, just 7,56 mm thick, pays respectful homage to the original 1931 edition.

The brushed-effect rose gold dial captures the light with a rare intensity, offering optimal readability and a strong graphic presence. The applied indexes and refined style reinforce this subtle balance between glamour and modernity.

The art of movement, the soul of the Reverso

At the heart of this piece beats the Caliber 822 with manual winding, a faithful reflection of the mechanical expertise of the manufacture. Each component, meticulously decorated and assembled by hand, recalls the constant quest for perfection that drives the workshops of the Grande Maison. More than just a watch, the Reverso Tribute Monoface Small Seconds is a demonstration of a certain taste for detail, and of loyalty to roots while embracing the future.

Jaeger-LeCoultre reinvents the Reverso Tribute Small Seconds, in color and finesse

A timeless symbol of refinement and design, the watch Since 1931, Reverso has embodied the perfect union of technical innovation and sporting elegance. Originally designed to meet the needs of the “sporting gentleman” of the interwar period, this timepiece was born from a singular challenge: to create a watch capable of withstanding the violent impacts of polo, while maintaining an impeccable appearance. This challenge was set by British officers stationed in India under the Raj (1858–1947), fans of this demanding sport. Jaeger-LeCoultre brilliantly rose to the challenge by designing a revolutionary timepiece: the Reverso, equipped with an ingenious case capable of pivoting on itself to protect its crystal – a patented innovation (CH159982) that would go on to make watchmaking history.

From the moment it was created, the Reverso seduced audiences far beyond the polo field. Thanks to its rectangular design with taut lines, inspired by Art Deco, it quickly established itself as a stylish watch, adopted by lovers of elegance from all walks of life: artists, architects, intellectuals, travelers… Its singular silhouette and unique concept made it an object of universal desire.

Over the decades, the Reverso has continually reinvented itself, exploring aesthetic and mechanical variations for both men and women, while remaining true to its DNA. Even today, its reversible case—at once practical, aesthetically pleasing, and ideal for personalization—remains a strong signature of Jaeger-LeCoultre.

A thinner case, an ever more elegant silhouette

In the interest of increased sophistication, the rose gold case has been redesigned to achieve remarkable finesse: Only 7,56 mm thick, a technical feat given the complexity of the Reverso's sliding and rotating mechanism, which comprises more than 50 components. This refinement underlines the natural elegance of the rectangular shape, relatively rare in watchmaking, but perfectly ergonomic and faithful to the original spirit of the model.

The audacity of color: between tradition and modernity

For this new collection, Jaeger-LeCoultre offers four dial variations finely crafted, each highlighting the architecture of the watch with its own personality:

  • Black sun : a direct homage to the first Reverso models of the 30s, whose contrast with the polished rose gold creates a strong and theatrical visual presence.
  • Lacquered Bordeaux : with a captivating depth, it enhances the warmth of the rose gold case with a touch of modern glamour.
  • Silver : a discreet and refined nod to the model's origins, enhanced by a sophisticated opaline finish.
  • Opaline silver on steel : combined with black nickel hands and indexes, this model stands out with its contemporary and dynamic aesthetic.

All dials feature the famous sun finish, the result of expert craftsmanship: radial brushing in the center, galvanizing, varnishing or lacquering in several layers (up to 20!), then mirror polishing by hand. The result? A wealth of hues and reflections that evolve with the light.

An aesthetic signature faithful to the Reverso heritage

Each dial uses the codes of the Tribute line: applied indexes, double index at noon, faceted Dauphine needles, and a discreet small seconds counter in the lower part which balances the rectilinear geometry. By turning the case over, a sun decoration engraved inside the dial holder extends elegance down to the smallest details. And as always, the solid back of the Reverso is an ideal support for personalization, from an intimate message to a unique signature.

Elegance down to the bracelet: craftsmanship according to Fagliano

To strengthen its roots in the equestrian world, Jaeger-LeCoultre is continuing its collaboration with the Fagliano House, an Argentinian shoemaker renowned for its handmade creations. Each rose gold model comes with two Fagliano bracelets : one in canvas and leather, the other in full leather, perfectly matching the color of the dial. Thanks to pin buckles designed for easy changing, the watch adapts to everyday wear without ever losing its aesthetic coherence.

The Reverso Tribute Small Seconds not only seduces with its timeless elegance: it asserts more than ever its place as a watchmaking icon in perpetual evolution. By uniting history, style, and innovation, Jaeger-LeCoultre continues to write an exceptional watchmaking story. The Reverso, with its multiple faces and masterful reinterpretations, embodies the Maison's philosophy: that of discreet luxury, rooted in tradition, but focused on tomorrow. And when an actor like Laurent Lafitte wears it on stage at the world's greatest film festival, it's much more than an accessory; it's an entire legacy that shines in the spotlight.

With a heritage of more than 1 developed calibers, Jaeger-LeCoultre is behind many major inventions, such as the grand complication caliber, the perpetual movement watch, and the famous Reverso with its pivoting case. This technical mastery is complemented by a refined aesthetic, characterized by pure lines, perfectly balanced proportions, and meticulous attention to detail. The watchmaking Maison also cultivates an avant-garde spirit, constantly exploring new creative avenues while remaining faithful to its heritage.
