Blue gems in the firmament

Blue gems in the firmament

Gemologists have listed more than thirty blue stones, more or less precious, in all the shades that this color can take.

Some gems – for their provenance, rarity, luminosity or depth – fascinate more than others. These are the ones selected
independent designer jewelers and major houses of Place Vendôme for their pieces of fine jewelry. Sapphires, tourmalines, tanzanites, spinels, aquamarines, topaz, opals, iolites, apatites, and even… diamonds. All these gems have in common that they are always (aquamarine, tanzanite), often (sapphires) or sometimes (tourmalines, spinels, diamonds) blue in color.

“The color and intensity of a gemstone are determining factors in determining its value. A gemstone with a bright color will have a higher value than a pale one,” explains Soann, a Parisian jeweler-designer located on rue de Grenelle. When he designed the Hexaflore ring, he was primarily looking to showcase an exceptional tourmaline, whose hue oscillates between lagoon blue and the blue-green of indicolite.

Meander ring – Soann Joaillerie

Soann Jewelry created this unique piece in platinum. Its design is at the crossroads of the geometric figures of the Art Deco style and the sensual elegance of
organic curves. Full of contrast and audacity, this jewel can be admired from all angles to reveal its originality: built around this rare 4,66-carat lagoon blue tourmaline set in eagle claws, the design of the Hexaflore ring offers a hexagonal surround of baguette diamonds representing 0,54 carats. The pure lines are suddenly interrupted by the encounter with the rising curves of the ring body in grain setting of 0,32 carats, with the accent provided by a navette-cut diamond of 0,19 carats. From the Méandre collection, this exceptional piece offers a very contemporary hybridization between pure lines and the softness of natural forms. The combination is as surprising as it is stunning. With his experience serving major Maisons, Soann has technical know-how perfected over more than fifteen years of practice, thanks to which he also has a large network of trusted suppliers offering a wide choice of raw materials to meet any request. In addition, he makes it a point of honor to master the entire manufacturing process by having at his disposal
have all the necessary equipment to produce all the parts.

vibrant colors

Same approach at the store In Fine Jeweler Creator. Located in the heart of Rueil-Malmaison, the imperial city where Napoleon and Joséphine de Beauharnais spent their
the most romantic hours, the In Fine boutique offers pieces designed and made on site, in her workshop, by jeweler Isabelle Souppe. The designer chooses
only stones of impeccable quality, as in the case of her “En avance” ring, adorned with a literally hypnotic blue-green tourmaline. “I love tourmalines infinitely, I am always carried away by the depth of the intense blue-greens,” confides Isabelle Souppe. To create this ring, she chose a tourmaline with an intense and rare blue-green color, of natural origin, which comes from Africa. The pear cut makes it original and a little mysterious. “It’s a stone that transports us in its powerful blue-green,” she adds.

The ring In advance – In Fine

The “En avance” ring is feminine and voluminous, it is a piece of jewelry with character. The tourmaline is positioned in the center of the ring body with, on either side
other, brilliant-cut diamonds in F color and VS clarity, which highlight the taut curves of the shoulders. For the designer, “it’s a ring for a woman with style
assertive who decides his life and chooses his direction, who takes responsibility for his choices and his way of being”. Blue-green tourmaline is a gem sought after by most professionals. The most famous and coveted in recent years are the luminous blue, green and bluish-green Paraíba tourmalines. Originally, in the 1980s, they came from the state of Paraíba, Brazil. Their color is due to the presence of copper and manganese. They are also found in Africa.
A darker blue, indicolite tourmaline (or indigolite) is a rare variety of tourmaline also prized in jewelry for its vibrant and unique colors.
It is found in various parts of the world, including Brazil, Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Mozambique.

For its “Haute Joaillerie Sport” collection, the house Chanel chose a completely different blue, that of sapphire, a precious stone from the corundum family, sought after for its particular brilliance. This intense blue is found on all the pieces in the Graphic Line, including a white gold and platinum ring with a 6,36-carat cushion-cut sapphire. For the collection launch in Monaco, British actress and Chanel ambassador Keira Knightley wore a Graphic Line necklace and two rings with a vibrant blue sapphire in their center, surrounded by diamonds, rubies, and onyx.

The blue of the water

While the house Boucheron chose the pastel shade of aquamarine for its Carte Blanche 2024 “Blue Gold” high jewelry collection. Creative director,
Claire Choisne dedicated this collection to water. More than a fine jewelry line, “blue gold” represents an ode to the memory of water. It is the Icelandic waters that inspired Claire Choisne: strong, powerful, raw waters. The blue of the Icelandic glaciers is found in the graphic motif of the “Cristaux” necklace. Like a shiver on the skin, this piece of jewelry highlights 24 aquamarines in the heart of rock crystal hexagons. For this majestic creation, the white gold structure was refined to the maximum to be forgotten behind the transparency of the stones. Frosted effects were created on the rock crystal to achieve the frosted effect desired by the design studio. At the center of the necklace, a 2-carat E VVS5,06 diamond stands out to transform into a ring.

This year, new pieces Tasaki Workshop illustrate the waves and colors of the sea. In particular, the Serenity set highlights the diverse hues of the ocean. The shapes and stones in these collections reflect the constant inspiration from nature that characterizes Atelier pieces. The curves of each piece are inspired by the shape
waves with a delicate roundness. Serenity captures the beauty of the sea through a range of blues. Aquamarines represent the turquoise waters of tropical seas, while sapphires evoke the depths and splendor of the ocean. The scarf necklace drapes the neckline and is crowned with a 7,86-carat tanzanite.

Gucci High Jewelry

As for the house Gucci, with its new Labirinti high jewelry collection, it takes us on a journey to discover a sumptuous Italian garden, “Giardini all'italiana”. The blue color is expressed on a white gold necklace paved with diamonds with, at its center, a cushion-cut blue spinel surrounded by six oval-cut aquamarines, eight cushion-cut tanzanites and thirteen round-cut Paraíba tourmalines. Geometric beauty is a cornerstone of Labirinti Gucci, which evokes the linear paths of majestic labyrinths. A tribute to harmony, form and color is expressed in this series of jewels whose complex labyrinthine motifs tell the journey of life's surprises.
