Hibiki 40 Years: Suntory's oldest blended whisky

The prestigious concept store HIS Paris, always in search of excellence, enriches its offer with a true pearl of Japanese craftsmanship: the Hibiki 40 years old, the oldest blended whisky of the house Suntory.

Already known for its impressive selection of sakes and rare objects from the most beautiful regions of Japan, HIS Paris is expanding its catalog by unveiling this exceptional whisky, a true masterpiece of Japanese know-how.

A temple of exceptional sake and whisky

Conceived by designer Goliath Dyèvre, the HIS Paris space is a showcase dedicated to Japanese culture. Among its many wonders, a unique wall hosts 150 sake references, highlighting the iconic names of Japan's great distilleries and the little-known gems of independent brewers. Now, this collection is enriched with a rare treasure: the Hibiki 40 years old, a whisky as precious as it is elusive, produced at only 400 copies per year.

A masterful blend by Shinji Fukuyo

The Hibiki 40 Years Old is not just a whisky: it is a symphony of aromas and textures crafted by Shinji Fukuyo, Suntory's master blender. Using five whiskies from three iconic distilleries, Fukuyo has crafted a blend of rare complexity.

  • Yamazaki, with its single malts aged in oak barrels, brings deep, woody notes.
  • Habushu, famous for its peaty accents, enriches the aromatic structure with a smoky touch.
  • Chita, a grain whisky, offers smoothness and roundness.

The whole is enhanced by a barrel finish of mizunara, a rare Japanese oak whose unique qualities impart spicy aromas and unparalleled depth. This maturation reveals a captivating olfactory bouquet: notes of Japanese medlar, dried lemon peel, clove and a taste richness marked by the Acacia honey and dried figA creation that perfectly embodies Fukuyo's philosophy, summed up by its motto: “Creating Harmony”.

An exceptional setting for a legendary whisky

The Hibiki 40 Years is not just a nectar, it's also a tribute to Japanese craftsmanship. Every detail of the bottle and its box tells a story:

  • The crystal bottle, decorated with 30 facets symbolizing the 24 Japanese seasons and their variations, is decorated using the traditional art of Maki-e (lacquer enhanced with gold and silver). This meticulous work was entrusted to the official master glassmaker of the imperial family.
  • The washi label, a traditional paper made since the 7th century, was designed in collaboration with the renowned artist Eriko Horiki, mixing modernity and tradition.
  • The wooden box, a blend of 12 Japanese species such as zelkova and pine, is also decorated with maki-e, providing a setting worthy of this masterpiece.
