Under the heat of the distillery cellars Clement, in Martinique, a man devoted his life to listening to the murmur of the wood and the slow breathing of the barrels. For thirty years, Robert Peronet, emblematic cellar master, shaped the style of the Clément house with rigor and sensitivity.
Today, the distillery pays tribute to him with an exceptional creation: the Robert Peronet Cuvée, a rare and intimate rum, reflecting a lifetime dedicated to the art of blending.
The history of Martinique rum, a saga of terroir and passion
Born from the volcanic soils and generous sunshine of Martinique, Martinique rum is the heir to a centuries-old agricultural tradition. From the 17th century onwards, sugar cane established itself as the island's green gold, giving rise to family distilleries where a unique art was gradually refined: that of agricultural rum, made not from molasses, but from freshly squeezed pure cane juice.
This specificity gives Martinique rum a incomparable aromatic identity, marked by the vegetal freshness, the minerality and the depth of the terroir. Recognized for its excellence and authenticity, in 1996 it became the first spirit in the world to obtain a Controlled Designation of Origin (AOC), a guarantee of rigorous know-how and preserved origins.
Even today, each distillery on the island, of which Maison Clément is one of the most illustrious representatives, perpetuates this living tradition, between Creole heritage, artisanal demands and the expression of the Martinican landscape in the glass.

Maison Clément, guardian of Martinique agricultural rum
Founded in 1887 in the heart of Habitation Clément, in François, Maison Clément is much more than a distillery: it is a living symbol of Martinique's heritage. Rooted in the tradition of AOC Martinique agricultural rum, it has been perpetuating for over a century a know-how based on excellence, patience and respect for the terroir. Each step, from the harvest of fresh cane to the distillation of pure juice, to the long aging in oak barrels, is guided by a quest for balance and authenticity.
Under the watchful eye of generations of cellar masters, the house has been able to combine technique, audacity and elegance, giving birth to vintages that tell the story of time, the land and the hand of man. Even today, Rhum Clément stands out as a world reference for exceptional agricultural rum, celebrating thelifestyle Creole and the sensory richness of Martinique.

The memory of a man, the signature of a style
Discreet, precise, deeply attached to his land, Robert Peronet embodies the archetype of the old-fashioned cellar master: a craftsman of time more than a rum technician. For more than thirty years, he has watched over the cellars of Habitation Clément, guided by a simple philosophy: listen to the wood, respect the cane, let the rum speak. Behind his peaceful appearance hides an absolute requirement, a keen sense of balance and nuance. For him, each barrel is a promise, each blend an emotion to share. Heir to Martinican know-how passed down with humility, Robert Peronet has been able to combine the scientific rigor of aging to the artistic sensitivity of blendingHis eponymous Cuvée, his ultimate creation, is a faithful reflection of his character: measured, elegant, sincere, a rum in his image, shaped by patience and passion.
« This vintage is my signature, the synthesis of my memories distilled over time. ", confides Robert Peronet.
Composed of an assembly of very old rums, this unique vintage reflects the master's philosophy: balance, depth, and elegance. It embodies both the rigor of the technician and the sensitivity of the craftsman, the duality specific to those who know how to listen to the material. Each sip evokes a moment in life: a freshly cut cane, a barrel opened at dawn, a hushed silence in François' cellars. This rum is a liquid memory, patiently polished by time.

A sensory journey of rare elegance
At first glance, the dress deep mahogany catches the light and announces the richness of the tasting.
On the nose, the grilled wood and fresh cocoa open onto a palette of Red fruits and juicy pear.
The mouth, ample and velvety, reveals a substance gourmet, vanilla and slightly spicy, before stretching into a long, caressing and subtly woody finish. A meditation rum, to be savored slowly, almost religiously.
The emotion doesn't stop at the liquid. The Cuvée Robert Peronet comes in a noble wooden box, containing a numbered carafe and tasting bottleA sober and refined setting, designed with the same high standards as the assembly it houses. Robert Peronet personally participated in the creation of the design, faithful to his attention to detail and his taste for harmony.
The legacy of a master, the spirit of a house
At Rhum Clément, each creation tells a story, that of know-how passed down since 1887.
« We gave Robert carte blanche to create a vintage in his own image: opulent, delicate and full of character. ", said Audrey Bruisson, marketing director of the house.
This vintage is not a simple tribute: it is a legacy, bridge between past and future, a declaration of love to the land of Martinique and to the tradition of AOC agricultural rum. It embodies everything that Rhum Clément has defended for over a century: patience, audacity and the quest for perfection.
Closing the Cuvée Robert Peronet box feels like turning the page of a great history book. But the aroma lingers, like an echo.
The legend continues to age, somewhere in the cellars of Martinique.
