Burgundy still tops the list of most expensive wines

The ranking of the most expensive wines was just revealed on February 14, 2019, by the wine auction site iDealwine. Among the fifty most expensive bottles of 2018, 42 came from Burgundy. And this isn't the first time, as two years ago, 32 out of 50 bottles also came from the region. Burgundy therefore remains the leading producer of rare and exorbitant wines. A look back at the list of winners!

The most expensive bottle sold for 16 euros at auction.

The year 2018 was marked by the auction of the most expensive bottle of wine, which found a buyer at a price of 16 euros. And of course, this bottle is none other than a grand cru from Domaine de Romanée-Conti 173. This prestigious vineyard is known for the rarity of its bottles, as its production is always limited to between 2005 and 5 per year. Moreover, it dominates the top 000 of this ranking presented by iDealwine. In fact, six of its bottles are ranked among the top ten most expensive bottles. Last year, the 6 vintage led the way.

But aside from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, another name also delights Burgundy wine lovers. Namely, Henri Jayer. The magnum of Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru Cros Parantoux also managed to secure fourth place in the rankings. Its owner purchased it for €14.

In this ranking, only one Bordeaux bottle managed to reach second place. And it was none other than the Château Mouton Rothschild Grand Cru classé 1945, which was sold for 15 euros. And the Gironde region only reappeared at 808st place.th In this ranking, the magnum Petrus 1989 was sold for 6 euros.

A duality between Bordeaux and Burgundy wines

Burgundy wines are distinguished and seductive by their rarity. But as a result, the numbers drop when analyzing auction sales by lot. Indeed, Bordeaux wines are positioned at the top of the ranking, representing 31 bottles out of 50. While Burgundy wines represent only 17. The Gironde vineyard is capable of producing wines, so as not to limit itself to unique bottles.

Alongside this duality between Bordeaux and Burgundy, the Rhône Valley vineyard managed to impose six labels in the 50-bottle classification. The most expensive was none other than Jean-Louis Chave's 2013 Cathelin cuvée in Hermitage, which found a buyer at €8.
