THE SET
After a Chinese sextet called STOLEN, the Mancunians enter the scene to distill a melting pot of a long and strewn with pitfalls. Inspired by KRAFTWERK and a post-punk atmosphere, NEW ORDER shares his set by judiciously sprinkling CURTIS's tracks (at the beginning and end) to create a very effective dance-rock mix. Nevertheless, quite a few excerpts from the 2015 album "Music Complete" will be performed (the very good "Restless", "Academic" or "Tutti Frutti" on which BERNARD SUMNER will solicit the participation of the public for the first time. At 63, the singer-leader has kept his voice and exudes a palpable enthusiasm towards the fifty-something fans. As for him, the couple STEPHEN MORRIS (drums) / GILLIAN GILBERT (synthesizer) remains stoic, the latter even showing the weight of the years...
A few relentless gems will justify the trip: "Your Silent Face" with SUMNER's Melodica synthesizer, "Subculture" and "Bizarre Love Triangle" from the mid-80s, then the recent "Plastic," embellished and rhythmic. All the New Order tracks benefit from a visual projected on a giant screen accompanied by very powerful blue lights. Moreover, the members of the group remain in the shadows while an omnipresent smoke reminds us that NEW ORDER was widely played in discotheques. To this end, "Blue Monday" is explosive, unalterable and incomparable. What a title played in a maxi-live version!!! The spectators exult. Beforehand, "True Faith" enchanted the audience, more for its guitar solo than for a different and mediocre introduction compared to the original.
FINAL POST-PUNK
Rock n' roll takes over with "Temptation" and the encore offered by the English band. "Decades" is incredible, a dive into the cold-wave so dear to THE CURE's "Pornography" period. JOY DIVISION's two albums have become legendary, and witnessing some excerpts from a bygone era is a privilege. NEW ORDER starts with "Love Will Tear Us Apart," projecting an image of IAN CURTIS and the inscriptions "FOREVER JOY DIVISION." A beautiful tribute.
Only criticisms: The singer's lack of gallantry on the finale of "Blue Monday" where he could have left the final solo to GILLIAN. Finally, the absence of "Crystal", a super-hit from 2001 which is not played on the current tour. For the rest, NEW ORDER is timeless! FOREVER!
