Prophets Of Rage is a supergroup born in 2016 from the ashes of 3 emblematic bands of the last 30 years: Rage Against The Machine (RATM), Public Enemy & Cypress Hill. When the idea emerged in the brain of the brilliant Tom Morello, he obtained the agreement of Zack De La Rocha to interpret their titles and keep the rhythm of RATM formed by Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk. It is by choosing B.Real, Chuck D. and DJ Lord that the magic happened and Prophets Of Rage has not left the stage since their anti-Trump tour called " Make America Rage Again"
8th August 2019
The sublime Parisian room of the'Olympia, they will create a 2-hour tidal wave for the greatest pleasure of the French fans. We must first highlight the pleasant performance of the English female duo Nova Twins that Morello has been following since 2017. Georgia and Amy are like their single " Thelma & Louise", alternatively rock n roll! A nice introduction to the “Bad Bitches”…
21 p.m.: DJ Lord takes the stage alone with a 20-minute hell of a performance. The former Public Enemy's mix blends Queen, Deep Purple, Metallica, Aerosmith, Wu Tan Clan, the White Stripes, and Edwin Starr, leading into "Prophets Of Rage," a 1988 rap group song covered by the evening's heroes as they enter the stage. A wave of pogo music invades the pit, and the bouncy atmosphere continues unabated until the finale. Mainly based on RATM tracks, the set list recalls the commitment of these groups during the 90s, synonymous with radicalism and struggle. "Testify" and "Guerilla Radio" ignite the audience, while Prophets Of Rage slips in a few personal compositions like "Unfuck The World," the excellent "Hail To The Chief," and the recent "Made With Hate." It's incredible how B.Real & Chuck D. sublimate tracks that don't belong to them! It took two hip-hop stars to replace Zack! As for the decor, three giant sheets will be displayed throughout the evening. From the band's logo to a raised fist, it's quite a program...
Ambience
After "Take The Power Back," they performed an old-school medley combining songs from Cypress Hill, Public Enemy, and House Of Pain. A true success in the metallic fusion offered by Tom Morello and his acolytes. The latter paid tribute to his late friend Chris Cornell ("Cochise") and POR took off again with "Bullet In The Head," which will soon be 30 years old! Double-neck guitar for "How I Could Just Kill A Man," a still controversial song that Cypress Hill released in 1991 and that RATM covered in 2000 on the album "Renegades." The atmosphere was very heated, and the pogo players in the front rows took vital breaks that were quickly forgotten as soon as an energetic song rang out! "Bulls On Parade" was phenomenal! Tom lovingly embraced his guitar to create sound effects that revealed his unique musical style. Probably the best moment of the concert. The finale of the show will be sweaty with an excerpt from "Fight The Power" introductory to the legendary "Killing In The Name". Everyone agrees, this song and "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana are the rock anthems of the 90's. After the encore, "Bombtrack" definitively finishes off the audience and the band leaves to loud applause/howls.
In summary, the fan would have liked to hear "Freedom", "Revolver", "Calm Like A Bomb", "I'm Housin'", "He Got Game", "911 Is A Joke", "Superstar" or "Tequila Sunrise" but the show would have lasted 3 hours! It would just be necessary to vary the set-lists which have not been very innovative for 2 years. Nevertheless, the quality of the musicians and singers is undeniable... The tattooed bassist is enormous, a DJ brings a real bonus to the performance and B.Real is a god! Note the messages stuck on the back of the instruments of the guitar hero Tom Morello, who supports the Yellow Vests and sports anti-fascist logos. A lifelong struggle for a memorable concert.
