About the Star Wars saga

The story of the Star Wars film saga is a bit like a soap opera in space, with lightsabers, funny robots, and furry creatures. George Lucas, the father of it all, had the idea to make three films in the 70s and 80s, where we follow the adventures of Luke Skywalker, a farmer who dreams of adventure and who discovers that he is the son of a scary villain in black armor. With the help of his friends, a charming scoundrel, a rebellious princess, and a growling ape, he will save the Empire galaxy from a band of space Nazis who have built a big ball capable of blowing up planets.

Then, in the 90s and 2000s, Lucas decided to make three more films, which tell the story of how Luke's father went to the dark side of the Force, a kind of magic that grants superpowers. We also see how he met his wife, a queen who changes her hairstyle in every scene, how he had his arms and legs cut off by his master, a wise old man who speaks backwards, and how he ended up in his Darth Vader costume.

Finally, in the 2010s and 2020s, Disney bought the franchise to make three more films, which follow the adventures of Rey, an orphan who finds a lightsaber and finds herself mixed up in the war between the Resistance, the good guys fighting for freedom, and the First Order, the bad guys who want to control everything. We also meet the old heroes, who have aged and are a little depressed, and we learn that Rey is the granddaughter of a supervillain who looks like a dried-up prune.

Spin-off movies are separate stories that take place between the main episodes. There's Rogue One, where everyone dies at the end; Solo, where we learn how Han Solo got his name, his ship, and his furry friend; and The Clone Wars, a children's cartoon but with plenty of deaths nonetheless.

The Star Wars saga is a global cultural phenomenon, generating billions of dollars and inspiring generations of fans. It's also an endless source of debate, criticism, and parody.
